Whether you're as psyched as us to watch the Rio 2016 marathon or are training for a fall marathon of your own, we have a great list of events for you to soak up the last month of summer, #Rio2016-style.
OLYMPIC VIEWING PARTIES IN NYC:
What better way to watch the Opening Ceremonies than at a cool outdoor lawn party?! There will be drink specials, huge plasma screen TVs and a projector, and more. Click on the image to the left to download the flier.
FREE screenings the events on a giant HD movie theatre screen! Screenings run the first weekend of the games, then various events Wednesday-Sunday (days 5-9 and days 12-16). There is no advance ticketing so be sure to check NBC's schedule of the games and arrive early to watch the events want to see.
Hunter's in Brooklyn has created a pop-up Brazilian-themed restaurant with a matching Brazilian menu from chef Bruno Vargas. The restaurant will be showing the Rio 2016 all day and all night long for the duration of the games, starting with the Opening Ceremonies on August 5th at 7:30pm.
4. Woodwork, Friday, August 5th- Sunday, August 21st in Prospect Heights
Sportsbar Woodwork will be showing the Olympics at various times all throughout the games. Bonus: their Monday-Friday happy hour deals includes $4 drafts and wells drinks!
5. The Garden at Studio Square, Friday, August 5th- Sunday, August 21st in Long Island City
Another awesome outdoor space to watch the games, this Biergarten features a huge 160ft screen- you'll feel like you're right there in Rio watching the competition! Don't worry, if it rains, they have tons of flatscreen TVs inside too. Check out their drink specials here.
Summer Streets, Saturday, August 6th, 13th, and 20th 7:00am-1:00pm, 72nd st & Park all the way to Foley Square
Come run, bike, walk, and play in a world where Manhattan has no cars! Imagine running all the way from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park – that's 7 miles – WITH NO CARS. There are even 5 rest stops along the way should you need some H2O or a bathroom (but for when Summer Streets isn't going on, check out our Life Hacks for Runners ). There's also tons of cool workshops and activities along the route– did we mention there is a zipline starting at 53rd and Park/Lex again this year?! Register at the Uptown rest stop for a time slot. Oh and there's a giant water slide.
France Run 8K, Sunday, August 21st at 8:00am in Central Park
The race is sold out for adults, but if you want to tire your children out on a Sunday morning (or see if you can still pass for age 7) kids race registration is still open. The post-race festival ~France-themed of course~ will have music, dancing, and probably the best giveaway of any race here, a trip to Paris via AirFrance. We might just run to Central Park for the party! #FranceRunNYC
Perfect if you're training for a fall marathon (NYC Marathon, Chitown, Philly), run anywhere from 6 to 20 miles with water stations and aid stations along the way. #LongTrainingRun.
