We at OnlyAtoms are runners, so we know what runners need and want out of their gear. With reflective details, huge pockets, comfortable fit and recycled fabrics, our apparel hits the sweet spot between form and function.
We run too, we know running gear, and we know better than anyone that not all running apparel is created equal. We dealt with years of shorts that chafe, have unnecessarily heavy zippers, scratchy labels, and logos that fall off after washing. What's the solution? Design it, source it, and sew it. And do it well.
When we start the design process for each piece, we ask ourselves "how can we create the best user experience in a pair of shorts? (Yes to clothing UX!) If we're running for 3.5 hours, what do we want to deal with?" Our priorities are to give you plenty of space to stash your stuff, use high-quality performance fabrics to keep you dry and comfortable, and make amazing, versatile pieces that go with all the running gear that you already love. Our front interior pockets on our Women's Gravity Running Shorts, and our Men's Velocity Running Shorts, and are twice as big as the average running short pocket. That's 200%! Watch us fit 6 gels, 3 hair ties, 3 keys, 2 bobby pins, 1 set extra laces, 1 Swiss Army Knife, 1 mini USB key, and 1 USAT card into our Gender Neutral Infinity Shorts (read about how those got started here).
We engineered a special gusset panel in our Women's Momentum Running Short to prevent the dreaded camel-toe. We wear-tested our singlets and shorts to find the perfect length - not too shorts, not too long (you know, because we like to *look good running* in our runfies and race photos). We design each of our garments to be better than what you have now and what we had before.
When it comes time to find all our
fabrics and trims for each piece, we search tirelessly for the best of the best. For our shorts, after much trial and error, we went with a premium inverse coil zipper directly from global zipper supplier YKK in Japan, that would open and close quickly and efficiently. You know, for when you're balancing on a rock during a trail run and need to eat a GU gel without missing a beat. Equally important for when you need to grab cash for coffee without taking everything else out of your pockets too.
We are always sourcing, always following-up with our fabric vendors and trim suppliers to see what's new and interesting. Our logo is specially crafted to be reflective (take a picture with flash and see for yourself!) and stretchy, so that over time it won't fall off of your new favorite OnlyAtoms tank or shorts.
"Locally made" is really important to us. We're friends with the humans who make our clothes- and because our factory is right in the heart of the garment district in NYC, we can ensure we're making the highest-quality performance garments through fair practices and the best techniques.
