We've been following local Brooklyn/NYC runner Katie aka Hungry Runner for a while and love her posts since, you know, we love running and eating too.
We're also partnering with her in her awesome Team For Kids fundraiser (see her TFK fundraising page here) with this great running gear giveaway here, and this NYC Half Marathon giveaway here, so we wanted to get to know her better and share her inspirational Runner's Life story here.
Describe what RUNNING is to you, in 5 words or less.
Running is bliss.
How did you get started running and/or what inspired you to run?
I started running as a way to lose weight after college. A friend of mine initially got me to get started (at the time I hated it though), but I was determined to be persistent with it and when it eventually started to feel good and became less challenging I was automatically hooked.
Your favorite running moment? (anything -- achievement, event, people, race, place, etc)
Finishing my first marathon, the 2014 NYC Marathon. (below)
Who/what do you think you'd be like today if you did NOT run?
I think I would be much more stressed. Running helps me to find balance, and even though it has its challenges, it’s also a way to relax.
Why do you keep on running? and running and running...
I keep running simply because I love it. It makes me happy, it’s a great form of exercise and it keeps me healthy, and I can honestly say that I’m always looking forward to my workouts.
What is your favorite post run/race indulgence?
Pizza or French fries.
Oddest, most unusual, weirdest running experience…
I once ran a 108-mile running relay race from Skagway, Alaska to Canada’s Yukon Territory. It’s a 24-hour race and you ride along in a camper van while each teammate runs a leg of the race. It wasn’t odd or weird, but definitely unusual and outside the realm of what I ever imagined I’d do.
