We were honored when one of our local New York City running groups, North Brooklyn Runners, asked us to produce some of their team running singlets. It might not be the first thing you think about when shopping for running clothes, so we thought it was worth sharing about the locally made production process. The making of a running singlet (made in the USA, and NYC) is documented here to see your locally made running gear come to life!
Our premium stretch polyester blend performance fabric wicks away sweat and keeps you dry and comfortable for maximum performance on your run. Our high-quality athletic gear is not too light, not too heavy - just right. The mesh panel fabric keeps you dry in the right places where you sweat the most, but keeps you cool or warm enough when you need it. Coming from one of the top technical fabric mills in the world that also supplies other sports brands, these fabrics are created for true athletic performance wear.
- Flat sewn seams keep you from chafing.
- Reflective logo protects from oncoming cars, bikes, & similar predators. Don't be fooled by other brands "silver" logos - they don't reflect! (Do the cell phone photo flash test on them...)
- Flat heat-pressed back label is also anti-chafing.
- Designed in Brooklyn by real runners.
- Made in the heart of NYC. In the USA, on Planet Earth, far, far out in the Universe.
We spent years working in fashion for a super OCD detailed designer, so we don't go half-assed on anything here. Sourcing these technical fabrics alone took months, and we're always looking for more. Simple details like finding the right label, a logo that really reflects, and explaining to our factory why every seam must be flat doesn't happen overnight...we are picky and demand the best.
After confirming all the fabric and trims, our women's singlet pattern had to be adjusted slightly to accommodate the North Brooklyn Runners / NBR logo (hey, you want people to know who you are, right?). Then fabric gets cut, seen here in this photo. Not cut by a machine...cut by a real person, using a machine. (More details about our factory and production process here, here and here.)
Then the cut pieces get sewn together, often by a different people who do different types of sewing.
Here's the fabric being cut with what looks like a jigsaw (right).
And here's one of our sewers finishing up the seams of the men's NBR singlet (left).
THE (ALMOST) FINISHED SINGLETS:
The singlets each get heat-pressed reflective OnlyAtoms icon logos on them, each singlet is pressed and folded, and are done at this factory and passed to the printer in Brooklyn to screenprint the NBR logo.
Then the amazing "gear masters" pack up each singlet and bring it to Thursday night track workout or Saturday Bridge Run. How nice of them to bring them to such convenient locations for everyone. The NBR runners then get a super cool, locally made, made in the USA singlet to running long the NYC waterfront, or just wear it around and look like a cool Brooklyn runner....or do fun running stunts on large rocks, but not within a few weeks of a big race.
THE FINAL SINGLET:
ENJOY YOUR TEAM SINGLET & HAVE FUN!
