Father's Day is coming up (cough June 19th cough), and if you're at a loss for what to get your dad, we've got you covered. Especially if your dad runs! Here's our Father's Day Running Gift Guide from from last year. We've added 7 more cool gifts this year that are perfect for your active dad.
Buy dad a bib to a race in a cool location (or invite him to a race you're running) and make a weekend of it! Running a race together or inviting him to join your cheer crew is a great way to spend time with him. If you're both up for long distances, aim for a half marathon that includes a concert for participants (make sure you can snag your cheer crew tickets too if they're not running), or in a city you've been meaning to visit. Our lists of best half marathons in 2016( part 1; part 2) is a great place to start.
My family has done several runcations together, including Seawheeze in Vancouver in 2013 and Nike Women's Half Marathon San Fransisco in 2014 (since dropped and replaced with Nike Women Victory Tour, RIP). Back in 2012, when my sister and I ran the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, we invited our parents up to Chicago (my dad's hometown) to watch us run. It was an inspiring weekend filled with food, family time, and it was amazing seeing them cheer us on along the course. And thank god they were there to drive us back to university.
2. Groovy Running Gear
Designed by runners in Brooklyn, worn by runners around the world, your dad is sure to love our very own OnlyAtoms Men's Running Gear. He'll look like a warrior and a cool urbanite at the same time. Can't decide color shorts or which awesome top he wants? Let him choose for himself with an OnlyAtoms gift card. Especially great if, like me, you've been itching to throw away dad's vaseline-stained shorts from who-knows-what-decade. The Velocity Shorts alone have so many amazing features!
What better to give dad than the gift of always being able to find his keys? This cool woodgrain keychain is actually a bluetooth tracker designed to work with an app and help you find things! Perfect for guys who run with their keys, too...you know, just in case he doesn't have a pair of our shorts that have a (reflective) zip (huge) pocket! Just make sure he has Find My iPhone turned on...
4. Read a Book Together
Remember how dad use to read to you? Re-kindle (pun intended) that love and buy him a book you can read at the same time. Look no further than our super inspirational summer reading list of awesome outdoorsy books. Reading any of these will be sure to inspire him get fit. As a girl raised by a huge Tour de France fan, I will definitely be gifting Slaying the Badger - my dad made me re-watch that infamous 1986 race as a child, so he already knows the story, but the book will be the perfect thing to bond over.
Paired with any Lifeproof case, the adapter is compatible with a variety of athletic-inclined accessories. Multi-sport dads will love how easy it is to snap his phone into the arm band or belt clip for running and snap it on the bike mount for long bike rides. There's even a suction mount for when dad's using Siri and GPS to get from point A to point B.
Super easy to use, water-resistant, and a fair price point, dad can track his steps, mileage, calorie burn, the Flex will track dad's daily activity and steps. Plus it syncs with an app. Great for competitive dads! Want more cool wearable tech gifts? Check out our comprehensive list of cool wearables for runners.
7. Whiskey Wedge
Another quirky yet super useful gift from another locally grown Brooklyn business, Uncommon Goods. Whiskey Wedge from Uncommon Goods. Because after all that running, dad needs to kick back, relax, and enjoy perfectly chilled whiskey without watering it down. Big yes to drinking some booze after a long run - especially Jack Daniels! (Hey, some booze is healthy...so they say).
