Half the fun of running a race is being able to party and
drink a beer afterwards, right? Why not take the work out of finding the happening parties after you cross the finish line and simply pick a race with a hard-partying reputation?
A few of our favorite fun party races - all distances - are listed here:
As part of the Rock ‘n Roll race series, this is more a party than a race with the course situated along the ocean, a pizza and beer after party, a headlining concert, and over 10,000 runners. As an added perk, it is also one of the fastest 5K courses in the world. The men’s and women’s world records both having been set there. What’s better than a post-race beer after setting a new PR?
Held on Memorial Day at Colorado University, over 120,000 participants enjoy the weekend of racing and partying each year. A Memorial Day tribute begins after the final races of the day have been completed, which fills the university’s football stadium with 70,000 spectators. Bolder Boulder has even officially been declared the nation’s largest Memorial Day celebration. As with any good holiday bash, there is always plenty of beer, sunshine, and camaraderie!
Is there anything better than a race that finishes at a brewery? The Horsetooth Half is a net downhill race that conveniently ends at New Belgium Brewery. Each finisher is guaranteed a free craft beer, which surely beats the lighter versions typically offered at post-race parties. The New Belgium atmosphere is fun and inviting, and is a perfect place to celebrate the fact you had to climb a two mile hill in the beginning of the race.
Not a fan of beer? Once you cross the finish line in Sonoma, enjoy the post-race wine and music festival that is complimentary with race registration. The race features over 20 local wineries, as well as live music. Yum!
Whether you are racing the Boston Marathon or simply spectating, there is no doubt that this Patriots Day race is one of the largest parties in the world. The streets of Boston are lined on marathon day with block parties, beer, and screaming fans, and that is only the beginning. After the race, the party continues on into the night as marathon finishers blow off some steam and celebrate their hard-earned accomplishments.
There is pretty much no reason to put yourself through that many miles of torture unless you are going to really party it up afterwards. Fortunately, ultramarathon runners know how to celebrate, which is especially evident at the Moab Red Hot 55k. This event is commonly promoted for its inviting atmosphere for the beginning ultrarunner, as well as for the well-planned after party, which is typically held at a nearby brewery with live music, free food, and plenty of beer.
