Nat Korol is another awesomesauce human who answered our call for runners to tell their running story and talk about why they run. She also runs up in this great city we keep hearing about (Toronto, Canada). Read more about Nat and her Runners Life here:
Describe what RUNNING is to you, in 5 words or less.
Freedom, friendship, meditation
How did you get started running and/or what inspired you to run?
My dad, who used to sprint, introduced me to running at a young age. He’d take me to the track on weekend mornings and we’d exercise together. I don’t think he realizes how much that’s impacted my dedication and love to the sport. To this day he’s very surprised I actually enjoy running long distances. In my 20’s, I fell in love with trail running. Trail running community is the most open, inviting and easy going group of people you’d ever meet. It’s offers a nice contrast to the busy city-girl life.
Your favorite running moment?
The moment you mentally start breaking down during a race, feeling like you can’t run anymore and then talk yourself out of it and push through. It’s not a proud moment but a humbling one where you start appreciating your training and at the same time your mental strength and overall health kick in. I love that moment, it surprises me every single time.
Who/what do you think you'd be like today if you did NOT run?
I’d find another way to find ‘me time’, I’ve been suggested meditation but I think hot power yoga studio is more my thing.
Why do you keep on running? and running and running...
Never thought too much about it but I guess I run to keep up! I’m never the leader, haha.
Oddest, most unusual, weirdest running experience...
Second trail race of my life and I saw a bear by the trail we were running on. I’m terrified of bears but I should’ve assumed that when you’re running on Bear Mountain, you’re bound to bump into one or two.. nope, never crossed my mind!
Have YOU ever run into a Bear, literally when trail running?!? Follow Nat and her running adventures online here at Twitter: @natykorol Instagram: @natykorol and her Blog: Best of Toronto.
